P12: Explain what factors affect the nutritional requirements of different zoo animals
In captivity to relicate their natural habitat is hard since live food cannot be given too these animals since they are carnivores, this means that they only eat meat. When these animals are given food in captive they can either feed it to the tigers in the indoor area, but you could also play pieces of meat around the enclosure so that they have to find the meat themselves. Tigers will not get fed everyday since they consume a large amount of food every few days when they are in the wild which will last them till their next meal. Two water sources will always be accessible, one of them will be for drinkings purposes only in the indoor enclosure and the outdoor enclosure. The other water source will be used for bathing and a source of enrichment since they can socialise and have the opportunity to play together in the water. This water source will have to have a filter to prevent the build up of algae. To prepare the food we would have to defrost it a day before consumption, this is so that the meat can be stored. All containers and equipment used for feeding the Tigers must be washed before and after use to prevent contamination and for general hygiene. To also avoid cross contamination all equipment which is red should be used since these pieces of equipment are only used for meat, where as green equipment will be used for vegatation. For an alternative food source we would have to use for their meat is animals such as beef, deer, pigs, goat and sometimes even rabbits and chickens. This is before animals they hunt in the wild cannot be given to these animals in captiviy so we use alternative meats which are still high in protein and fats. These meats that are used daily for other animals aswell as humans are readily available and are bought in bulks to be frozen and stored.

P13: Discuss how a balanced diet is produced for different zoo animals
Every animal center whether it be a zoo, park or education center will try their best to replicate nay animals natural diet to the best of their abilitys. This is so that they use their natural foraging behaviours to find their food aswell as getting all of their nutritional requirements. Tigers diets would consist of meats which are high in proteins and fats, but a vitamin and mineral power can also be used to rub onto the food to provide supplement nutrients that are required within the diet. There is also a water source provided for drinking since they can't get much water from their diets.
'Diet quantities should be increased 10-20% in animals housed outdoors during winter months, and decreased by the same amount during summer months when appetite drops. Increase diet to ad libitum during lactation.' http://www.tigerlink.org/husbandry/husman4.htm

P14: Discuss the role and inclusion of dietary supplements in feeding regimes for zoo animals
Siberian Tigers are given meats which have been scored and had vitamin and mineral powders rubbing into them to make sure they are getting their dietary requirements naturally without having to try make them take tablets within their food. Dietary supplements are needed within a diet plan incase their food source doesn't contain all of the nutrients required for a healthy diet and lifestyle.

P15: Explain how enrichment can be provided through nutrition and feeding
Enrichment can be provided through nutrition and feeding in a number of different ways. A method used in most animals centers and zoos is scatter feeding, this is taking a feeding routine and spreading their food around the enclosure so that they will have to forage for their food. This avoids them being fed from bowls or in a specific place each time, which would normally mean the keepers are involved. Another method could be to use a zoo truck to use within the enclosure and attach meat on a string to the tow bar so that the tigers can chase the food and get the satisfaction of the chase aswell as replicating its foraging behaviour in the wild. This methods of enrichment are based around nutritional feeding so help with their nutrition requirements.
